Begin with a visit to the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, completed in 2001 and named after the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said. The mosque has the capacity to accommodate over 20,000 worshippers and features stunning architecture and design, including a grand prayer hall, a library, and several beautifully landscaped courtyards and gardens. Next, explore the vibrant Mutrah Souq, a traditional market celebrated for its lively atmosphere and colourful merchandise, including Omani silverware, textiles, spices, and perfumes.
Visit the Royal Opera House, a world-class performing arts centre opened in 2011, whose stunning architecture blends traditional and contemporary elements. Admire the iconic Al Alam Palace, the official residence of the Sultan of Oman, with its striking blue and gold façade positioned majestically between the historic Al Jalali Fort and Al Mirani Fort — two formidable fortresses originally built in the 16th century by the Portuguese and later restored and renovated by the Omanis. After breakfast and check-out, transfer to Nizwa — a historic city that served as the capital of Oman in the 6th and 7th centuries and played a vital role in the country's political and cultural history.
On arrival, visit the imposing Nizwa Fort, a massive fortress built in the 17th century that served as a military stronghold and seat of government for many years. Now meticulously restored, the fort is open for visitors to explore its many sections, including the main tower, the prison, and the mosque. Next, visit the historic town of Jabreen, celebrated for its stunning traditional architecture, and explore the remarkable Jabreen Castle, featuring several rooms and courtyards, as well as displays of Omani art, calligraphy, and other artefacts.
Continue to Bahla Fort, one of the oldest and most well-preserved forts in Oman, originally built to protect the town and its inhabitants. Visit Al Hamra, a traditional Omani village renowned for its beautiful architecture, with mud-brick houses and buildings that have been preserved for centuries. Explore the village and learn about Omani culture and traditions. Continue to Jebel Shams, Oman's highest mountain peak, offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. The area is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities, and is also known for its rich flora and fauna, including several species of birds and mammals.
Discover the Omani Grand Canyon, also known as Wadi Ghul — a vast and dramatic canyon often compared to the Grand Canyon in the United States due to its similar scale and appearance. The canyon is renowned for its rugged terrain, deep gorges, and dramatic cliffs, all of which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Enjoy hiking or driving along the canyon, or simply take in the spectacular views from the various scenic viewpoints. Finally, explore Misfah, a traditional village celebrated for its well-preserved stone houses and winding alleyways. After breakfast and check-out, transfer to Wahiba Sands and enjoy the scenic drive through the stunning desert landscape.
The vast, undulating expanse of red and white sand dunes rising up to 200 metres is a truly breathtaking sight to behold. Experience the exhilarating thrill of dune bashing, speeding up and down the dunes in a 4x4 vehicle across the ever-shifting terrain that creates a beautiful and constantly evolving landscape. Wahiba Sands is also home to a rich variety of flora and fauna — several species of plants have adapted to the harsh desert environment, including acacia trees, ghaf trees, and desert hyacinths. Wildlife in the area includes Arabian gazelles, desert foxes, and sand cats, while birdwatchers can look out for eagles, falcons, and owls soaring overhead.

In the evening, savor the spectacular sunset at the Sands as the sun begins to set, the sky transforms into a beautiful array of warm colors, casting a golden glow over the dunes. Wadi Bani Khalid is a breathtaking natural oasis surrounded by towering cliffs and rocky terrain, with its centrepiece being a spectacular pool of crystal-clear blue-green water. The water is sourced from underground springs and is renowned as some of the purest water in the region — cool, refreshing, and perfect for swimming and relaxation. The wadi is also notable for its underground caves and hidden waterfalls, adding to its natural allure.
Arrive Sur, a charming coastal town located in the Ash Sharqiyah region, known for its rich maritime heritage and traditional dhow-building industry. Check in to your hotel. Later, visit the working Dhow Factory, where you can watch traditional Omani wooden boats being crafted entirely by hand by skilled artisans. These elegant vessels are used for fishing, transportation, and racing, and remain an important and cherished part of Omani culture and heritage.
In the evening, visit the world-famous Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, one of the largest nesting sites for green turtles in the world. Witness the remarkable nesting and hatching process of the green turtles, which come ashore in large numbers during nesting season. The reserve is home to several hundred turtles; watch these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat in the evening or early morning, when they are most active. Overnight in Sur.
