Proceed to visit Pamplemousses Garden a home to wide variety of Plant Species, & Giant Water Lilies that can be found in its ponds along with Palm Trees and Spices. Pamplemousses is named after French word for Grapefruit, as area was once covered in fields of Grapefruit trees. Pamplemousses is known for its Historical Sites, Botanical Gardens and scenic beauty. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, AKA Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, covers an area of 37 hectares having L'Aventure du Sucre Museum, which showcases the History of Sugar Industry and Apravasi Ghat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was key point of entry for indentured laborers to Mauritius in 19th century. Visit Citadel Fort built by British Colonial Authorities as means of defending city and island from potential attacks. Citadel Fort was strategically located on a hill overlooking Harbor and offer a clear view of incoming ships. Today, fort offers stunning views of City & Harbor. The site also houses Police Museum, which showcases history of Police Force. Explore more by visiting St. Louis Cathedral is largest and oldest Church known for its beautiful stained glass windows and Gothic architecture. Jummah Mosque is oldest located near Waterfront built in 1850s known for its intricate Architecture and beautiful Prayer Hall. High Court Building or Supreme Court building is an impressive example of British colonial architecture. Port Louis Theatre historic theater that has been recently restored. It hosts various Cultural Events and Performances throughout the year. Pass by French Colonial Buildings; Port Louis has number of French Colonial Buildings that have been well-preserved over years. Some of notable ones include Government House, Port Louis Theatre and Municipal Theatre. Today take Boat from Trou d'Eau Douce village to reach Ile aux Cerfs ride takes around 15 minutes, enjoy stunning views of Coastline and Indian Ocean along the way.
